Mechanical Design Engineer (CATIA V6) - Automotive

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will join our Basildon team to support our activities within the automotive engineering sector.

You will play a key role in the design and development of automotive components and systems, supporting projects from concept through to production. In addition to delivering design solutions, you will act as a technical reference for CATIA V6, providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers within the team.

Location: Basildon, Essex

On Site: Hybrid (minimum 3days per week on-site)

Clearance: SC clearable

Experience Level: Mid - Senior Level (minimum 3year's CATIA V6 experience)

Key Responsibilities

Develop mechanical designs and 3D models for automotive components and assemblies

Create detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation using CATIA V6

Support product development activities from concept through to production release

Participate in design reviews and engineering problem-solving activities

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers on CATIA V6 best practices

Support design governance, configuration management, and change control activities

Required Skills

Minimum 3 years of hands-on CATIA V6 experience in an engineering environment

Strong mechanical design engineering experience within the automotive sector

Ability to mentor and support other engineers in the use of CATIA V6

Experience creating and managing complex parts, assemblies, and engineering drawings

Good understanding of design for manufacture and engineering best practices

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering , or equivalent military experience .

Experience delivering mechanical design solutions within a product development environment

Demonstrable experience supporting projects from design through to release

Desirable Skills

Experience using 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX)

Knowledge of automotive product development processes

Experience working within a PLM-managed environment

Previous experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting junior engineers
