Supervisory Program Analyst (Inspections)

Being a Supervisory Program Analyst (Inspections) makes you a valuable member of the DHS OIG Office of Inspector General.

This position serves as a Supervisory Program Analyst (Inspections) over an inspection, evaluation, and/or special review team consisting of program analysts responsible for planning and conducting inspections, evaluations, or special reviews of DHS programs, functions, and operations.

Typical assignments include: Develops or modifies objectives, work plans, guidelines, scope, methods, staff requirements, and time schedules to meet project needs. Oversees report preparation and ensures effectiveness of presentation, adequacy of supporting data, and conformance with policies and standards.

Develops annual and long-range project plans, provides technical advice and guidance to subordinate staff for project activities and coordination functions, and maintains close liaison with Department program and management officials in the areas of assigned responsibility.

Reviews proposals and analytical questions, work papers, and reports to ensure, (a) adherence to the work plan and prescribed policies and standards, and (b) the quality and effectiveness (especially in the areas of content, clarity, and conciseness) of individual work products.

Directs revisions, or other corrective actions, to draft reports and testimony, where deemed necessary. Other duties as assigned.

To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal service which has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the GS-14. Specialized experience at this level may include: 1.

Directing the work of a team to successfully complete projects or studies comparable to evaluating business or government programs and operations to determine their levels of effectiveness, efficiency, economy, quality, or productivity. Recommending areas/issues for improvement, obtaining data or evidence, and suggesting further review efforts. 2.

Drafting factual reports for publication, while reviewing, editing, and incorporating team submissions, work papers, and related evidence from various sources. 3. Working with laws and regulations requiring a high degree of interpretation, and conducting inspections of highly sensitive, controversial problems.

Developing new approaches and solutions where no precedent exists or where guidance is unclear, absent, or contradictory. If you are selected for an interview, a writing exercise may be administered as part of the interview process.
