The Opportunity

This position works out of our Coyol de Alajuela location in the Electrophysiology (EP) division name. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

As the Purchasing Manager, you’ll have the chance to manage all aspects of purchasing, supplier-commercial relations, inventory and strategic supply management for the site and broader business objectives. Design and execute strategies to meet short and long-term supply requirements, mitigate business risks and drive organizational performance related to raw materials, indirect components and services.

Manage Purchasing Price Variances (PPV) and lead strategic sourcing initiatives.

This position works closely with supply chain, operations, commodity managers and divisional stakeholders to ensure continuity of supply, business growth and cost competitiveness.

Participates and leads enterprise-wide cost savings and operational excellence initiatives through cross-functional team engagement. Assigns work based on priorities necessary to support Raw Materials Supply, inventory management, in-bound freight and financial targets.

Expediently leads resolution of complex supply challenges; exercises broad judgment in planning and organizing work; monitors performance and drives continuous improvement. Uses best business practices to ensure success in areas of responsibility.

Ensures employee compliance with Abbott policies and practices while developing organizational capability and succession planning.

What You’ll Do

Position will be responsible for personnel leadership, organizational capability building, succession planning, training and development.

Manages suppliers, strategic partnerships and material availability to ensure production plans, business objectives and customer requirements are met. Ensures inventory investment is optimized while balancing service, risk and financial goals.

Monitors supplier performance and leads the development and execution of sourcing strategies, supplier risk mitigation plans and long-term supply agreements. Develops inventory strategies designed to ensure material availability, inventory investment optimization and cost competitiveness.

Leads and drives in-bound freight strategies, expenditures and performance improvements in alignment with business and financial objectives.

Provides strategic leadership for new product introductions, product validations and business expansion initiatives.

As part of the management team, advises senior management of the status of work in progress, material availability, supply chain risks and strategic opportunities to ensure resources, materials and services are aligned with business needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Materials, Industrial Engineering, or other related fields.

Fully Bilingual (English / Spanish).

10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with 8+ years of purchasing, planning or supply chain leadership responsibility.

Demonstrated success leading large teams and complex supply chain strategies.

Strong experience driving organizational transformation, supplier negotiations and cost optimization initiatives.

Advanced knowledge of materials/manufacturing systems, Lean Manufacturing and supply chain best practices.

Experience influencing senior leadership and managing cross-functional business initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain or related field.

APICS, CPSM, CSCP or similar professional certification.

SAP experience.

Experience supporting regional or global operations.
