The Educational Program Manager provides leadership and supervision to staff; develops professional development programs for educators; develops, manages and evaluates onsite, distance and online learning initiatives and student programming; and collaborates with internal and external partners to advance the CVC's educational mission.
Duties As an Educational Program Manager, you will: Provide administrative and technical supervision to subordinate staff, including assigning work, evaluating performance, establishing performance expectations, approving leave, providing coaching and training, and addressing employee performance and conduct matters.
Lead and motivate staff and multidisciplinary teams responsible for developing and delivering educational and public programming. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate professional development programs for educators, including teacher workshops, advisory groups and other educational initiatives.
Research and develop educational content, activities, primary source materials and resources that support program goals and applicable educational standards. Develop, manage and implement distance learning programs and digital educational resources for local and national audiences.
Research emerging practices and technologies related to virtual learning and educational programming and collaborate with information technology and audiovisual professionals to implement distance learning products.
Develop and manage onsite educational programs for students and other audiences, including establishing program goals, learning objectives, interpretive methods and quality-assurance standards.
Lead and participate in cross functional teams responsible for developing and improving student tours, educational programs and the overall school-group experience. Evaluate educational programs and recommend improvements based on program objectives, audience needs and recognized practices within informal learning environments.
Coordinate with staff, volunteers, educators, schools and other stakeholders to schedule and deliver educational and public programs. Collaborate with Communications and Marketing staff to promote educational programs and develop content for websites, handouts, brochures, signs and other educational and outreach materials.
Establish and maintain relationships with educators, schools, community organizations and other stakeholders to promote the Capitol Visitor Center as a resource for civic education.
You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Candidates for the GS-11 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes: Developing and implementing K–12 educational programs, curriculum, or resources related to history, civics, and/or government in a museum, historic site, cultural institution, or similar learning environment; Leading staff, educators, volunteers, or project teams in a museum or similar learning environment in the development educational programs; and Initiating and developing partnerships with educational institutions that support professional development programs. -OR- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. -OR- 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
Candidates for the GS-12 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes: Independently planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating K–12 educational programs, curriculum, or resources related to history, civics, and/or government in a museum, historic site, cultural institution, or similar informal learning environment; Supervising a team in a museum or similar learning environment responsible for educational programming, including assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance, providing guidance and resolving workplace or performance issues; and Initiating and developing partnerships with educational institutions that support professional development programs.
