About You

Are you a passionate problem solver? Do you act with integrity and hold yourself and others to the highest standard? If the answer is, “Yes!” then we have an opportunity that will impress you. Who are we? We are ARCO, a Family of Construction Companies.

Second Order Controls – a division of ARCO/Murray National Construction – is seeking a highly motivated Cx Project Manager to join our Commissioning team based in Chicago, IL. At ARCO, every associate is empowered to drive their success.

Project Managers at ARCO have complete responsibility for project performance, customer satisfaction, and taking projects from design to completion. Each Project Manager has full profit and performance responsibility for his or her projects and unlimited growth potential.

A Day in the Life

Perform commissioning on mechanical, electrical, controls, and process systems.

Act as the commissioning lead for ARCO’s largest, most complex projects. In this role, you will be responsible for all pre-commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting activities, with the resource backing of all ARCO assets and trade partners.

Work directly with ARCO customers and end-users regarding commissioning status, engagement of client operations staff, and facility turnover.

Troubleshooting is a major element in this role. Candidate will not only be responsible for identifying issues, but also guiding issues from discovery, through troubleshooting/root cause analysis, to final issue resolution. This must be accomplished by taking a hands-on approach and completely owning the issue through resolution.

Project types include Mission Critical, Advanced Manufacturing, Power & Gas Infrastructure, Municipal and Private Water Treatment, Waste-to-Value, Commercial, Controlled Environments Agriculture, and more.

Operate as the bridge between design and construction teams. Coordinate system design with installation between clients, subcontractors, and equipment vendors in a way that ensures the seamless turnover of ARCO’s projects.

Create and execute pre-commissioning equipment checklists to maintain state-of-the-art quality system installations.

Create and execute commissioning test scripts that verify correct operation of the installed systems.

Lead project commissioning meetings that accurately set expectations and coordinate schedules for all trades.

Effectively convey information to onsite superintendents and subcontractors using employee’s knowledge of the project’s systems.

Necessary Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (with a focus in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural preferred)

5+ years of experience in Mission Critical, Power Infrastructure, or Water Treatment preferred

Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with different types of individuals

Strong understanding of engineering principles (HVAC, thermodynamics, heat transfer, process engineering)

Excellent communication and leadership skills

Highly entrepreneurial and self-motivated, with the ability to successfully work on own

Comfortable with spending time on construction jobsite – approximately 50%.

Familiar with construction practices and principles

Certification in building commissioning (QCxP, CCP, CxA or similar) is preferred but not required
