TRAINING INSTRUCTOR

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Serves as a Training Instructor for the law enforcement personnel and provides quality firearms training to law enforcement personnel. Assist in the design and execution of agency programs and lesson plans. Instruct basic and advanced tactical courses and updates training courses.

Develop course outlines and lesson plan material. Conducts evaluation of current and evolving training, educational and informational methodologies and procedures. Inspect, cleans, repairs and uses firearms assigned to the Agency on a daily basis.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program.

Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

You may qualify at the GS-9 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: 1) Assisting in the development of law enforcement and firearms training curriculum; 2) Providing developmental guidance to students in courses related to law enforcement and firearms usage and maintenance; and 3) Assisting in conducting routine assessments and evaluation of current and evolving law enforcement training requirements.

OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR Combination of education and experience You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: 1) Conducting research and needs assessment to develop course and informational products for subjects such as, law enforcement practices, marksmanship, and the maintenance of firearms; 2) Planning, organizing, and conducing training courses in firearms function and maintenance and 3) Applying operational law enforcement procedures in the development of course outlines and lesson plan materials OR Combination of education and experience You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: 1) Updating and modifying law enforcement and firearms training courses and informational products as technologies, programs and requirements change, 2) Providing problem solving assistance designed to improve training and cost effectiveness in operational law enforcement and firearms training, and 3) Applying operational law enforcement procedures and practices to develop course and informational products for subjects such as, law enforcement practices, marksmanship, and the maintenance of firearms.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
