Supervise law enforcement operations and respond to emergency incidents.

Conduct investigations, interviews, arrests, and evidence collection.

Protect personnel, facilities, classified assets, and Arms, Ammunition and Explosives resources.

Operate emergency vehicles and enforce traffic laws.

Perform harbor patrols, vessel inspections, and waterside security.

Operate and maintain patrol boats while supporting search, rescue, and security missions.

Establish incident perimeters and implement force protection measures.

Lead or support incident command using NIMS/ICS protocols.

Operate NCIC and other law enforcement information systems.

Prepare reports, citations, and investigative documentation.

Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching and guidance.

Maintain discipline, conduct interviews, and support workforce development.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes an understanding of law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility in maintaining order and protecting life and property; performing long term investigations, evaluating crime prevention programs and recommending changes to reduce opportunities of violations; developing informant networks; coordinating with authorities on case development to perform arrests and prosecutions; and management of police officer personnel.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-08. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
