The major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Serves as Executive Assistant to Chief Officer in coordinating day-to-day administrative and operational functions. Ensures all time sensitive controlled correspondence is answered completely, accurately and in a timely manner.

Ensures that correspondence receives the appropriate development in terms of coordinating the legal, technical, and policy issues as required. Ensures replies are responsive, consistent with department policy and guidance and assesses the impact on organization and other government entities and private sector.

Through consultation with the authorized servicing HR office, recommends solutions to difficult administrative problems assuring effective use of staffing and resources.

Initiates final responses on all executive correspondence, ensuring that responses thoroughly address the issue and conform with Department, Administration, and Program policy and procedures. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm EST Telework: This position may be authorized for ad hoc telework.

Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. Ad hoc is defined as occasional, non-recurring telework. Virtual: This is a virtual position. Virtual Work eligibility is for current VA employees who are already subject to the return to the in-person work mandate in their current position.

Definition of Virtual Work: Employee works outside of original hiring duty station at a VA-owned or leased space. Return to Office (RTO): RTO mandates are in effect and selectees will be required to report to in person work unless they have an approved exception or an exemption.

Any approval for an RTO exception, exemption, or extension will happen after a tentative job offer, but before a final job offer.

There are no special physical requirements.

The work is performed primarily in office areas or conference rooms and similar environments. However, it may require some traveling and visits to Government and/or contractor's facilities and other contract-related performance sites.

This announcement will remain open until the closing date, 10/08/2026, or when the applicant count is reached, whichever is earlier. The applicant count is the point at which the first 50 applications are received. All applications submitted that day up to 11:59 p.m.

Eastern Standard Time on the date the applicant count is reached will be accepted and considered. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/08/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-14 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-13.

The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-13 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Providing executive-level administrative support, including preparing briefings, managing sensitive assignments, and coordinating with senior officials across an organization.

Reviewing, drafting, and tracking high-priority documents and correspondence to ensure accuracy, alignment with policy, and readiness for senior-level review. Gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing program information to support decision-making and independently responding to inquiries that do not require executive attention.

Coordinating Human Resources on employee and labor management issues, including developing performance standards and evaluations, disciplinary actions, and incentive awards, as well as recruitment activities including developing Position Descriptions or Functional statements.
