Lead International Economist

As a Lead International Economist, you will perform the following duties: Analyzes international trade and economic issues and evaluates policy recommendations for their effects on U.S. trade policies and initiatives.

Provides technical, statistical and analytical assistance to Industry and Analysis and other units in the International Trade Administration. Prepares international trade and economic background and briefing materials for senior executive officials to use in policy development and promulgation.

Produces, analyzes, and publishes economic information and reports that are clear, accurate, and technically sound to support agency programs, policy development, and informed decision-making. Represents the agency by conducting presentations and briefings for senior officials, interagency partners, and external stakeholders.

This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Lead International Economist GS-0110-15, FPL GS-15 positions within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location or local commuting area with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT: The below represents the Economist 0110 series education requirement: A.

Degree: A bachelor's or higher degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus or B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

AND To qualify at the GS-15 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as: Leading international trade and economic policy initiatives by directing economic research projects involving international trade issues.; Developing reports and executive briefings based on analyses of economic research and data to support policy development and informed decision-making.; AND Analyzing international trade and economic issues and/or evaluating policy recommendations to assess their impact on U.S. trade policies and initiatives.
