Principal Executive Correspondence for the Commander. Uses military knowledge to ensure the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values to the team, ensuring integration into their strategies, goals, objectives, work plans, products, and services. Serves as protocol specialist for the commander, senior leaders, and staff.
As the protocol specialist for the commander, senior leaders, and staff, this role involves providing independent protocol assistance for a range of official and social functions, such as visits, conferences, awards, promotions, retirements, Change of Command ceremonies, funerals, memorial services, and other protocol-related events.
Calendar Management, Meeting Coordination, and Task Monitoring. This role manages the Wing Commander and Wing Executive calendar, coordinating meeting arrangements and travel, and scheduling meetings and conferences, including those involving staff from outside the immediate office.
In a welcoming manner, receives telephone calls, greets visitors, and ascertains the nature of the calls or visits, screening independently for priority. Places both local and long-distance calls for Commander or staff personnel.
Leads or participates in special initiatives, studies, special projects, and initiatives and performs non-routine assignments. This role involves performing various clerical and administrative tasks in support of the office/organization.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems.
Example of specialized experience includes: (1) Working within Installation, Wing, and Group functions, program goals, work processes, and organizational structures to schedule, conduct, evaluate, and recommend ways to improve effectiveness and efficiency in support of special projects, plans, and operations; (2) applying official protocol regulations, functions, concepts, and practices sufficient to serve as a Protocol Specialist; (3) navigating customs, concepts, practices, and regulations dealing with national and international diplomatic formality, precedence, and etiquette; and (4) operating Task Management Tool (TMT) software and various office automation programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level.
TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.
Knowledge of, and skill in applying, analytical and evaluative techniques concerning organization missions and staff operations management concepts, principles, methodologies, major issues, goals, objectives, and organizational structure. 2.
Knowledge of Air Force Task Management and Workflow program operations, goals, objectives; the methods of evaluating the effectiveness of all actions related to the program; and the relationship of the various Field Operating Agency entities involved in the overall planning and execution of the management of this program. 3.
Knowledge and thorough understanding of the concepts, principles and practices of protocol, military ceremonies, traditions, customs and courtesies, and governing policies, pertinent laws, regulations, and precedents. 4.
Skill in and ability to develop, prepare, coordinate, staff, and implement administrative procedures, programs, and directives; ability to gather, interpret, and analyze information to support organizational decision-making. 5.
Ability to conduct wide range of projects and studies, and prepare solutions to resolve substantive problems and issues of effectiveness and efficiency of work operations in a major command program. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to gain cooperation from others through tact, courtesy, and diplomacy.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
