Electronics Mechanic

Major duties include but are not limited to: Interconnect system components by applying a thorough knowledge of different electronic and solid-state voice and data systems. Manage the running of security cables. Install cabling support systems and security system devices. Assist with the design, testing, and commissioning of these systems.

Maintain and repair complex telecommunication equipment and supporting cabling sub-systems. Troubleshoot complex electronic and electromechanical systems, telecommunication system, data circuitry components and other related equipment and systems. Analyze and restore faulty voice and non-voice circuits.

Repair complex telecommunication and security system components. Document all maintenance, repairs, installations, and checks performed on equipment and systems. Report work progress to immediate supervisor. Perform maintenance to various electronic equipment items that are and are not patient related. Performs other duties as assigned.

Driver's License Requirement: Incumbent must possess a current, valid state-issued driver's license for this position.(Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package.

You will be required to show your valid driver's license at the time of your interview.) Physical Requirements: The incumbent must exert moderate to arduous physical effort involving working, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, and crawling while performing his/her duties at the Medical Center.

He/She must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding, climbing over and under equipment, working in confined spaces, crawl spaces, and other isolated areas. Incumbent must be able to work for extended periods in uncomfortable positions and conditions. He/She must be able to lift loads of up to 40 pounds unassisted and 80 pounds with assistance.

You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Questions about physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination.

Working Conditions: Most work will be performed inside the shop or medical center areas that are adequately heated, cooled, and lit, but on occasion must work in service/utility areas outside with marginal/minimal ventilation. Work is performed throughout the medical center including patient care areas.

Work performed is generally of a precise nature requiring prolonged concentration. Incumbent at times works under conditions of extreme stress and must be able to interact effectively with medical center staff and perform work in a calm manner.

The incumbent will on occasion have to operate a government vehicle to accomplish work required at VA outpatient clinics located off the main medical campus. Incumbent works in crowded areas and around moving machinery.

Incumbent is also required to work in patient areas which are contaminated with various diseases including HIV, TB, and is issued personal protective equipment/clothing to be worn.

The incumbent will be working with live electrical/electronic circuits, exposing him/herself to the possibility of electrical shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises.
