WELDER

Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications and work orders.

Operates forklifts on uneven conditions to unload vehicles and move materials in outside storage yards.

Uses gas welding torch processes such as oxyacetylene, oxyhydrogen, arc processes, gas tungsten arc, gas carbon arc and various electric resistance welding processes.

Makes a wide-range of welds, from simple to precision welding, including welds of dissimilar metals.

Works with light, heavy gauge and hardened metals, i.e., mild steel, carbon alloy steel, stainless steel, copper on brass, brass on stainless steel, cast iron, nickel and bronze.

Must have good eye, hand and foot coordination to watch the clearance of the load while making necessary control changes.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Incumbent must possess American Welding Society (AWS) Code D1 .1.

(Horizontal/Vertical/Overhead Positions) welder's certification. You must submit a copy of your certificate. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) WELDER~ without more than normal supervision.

Performing repair, modify or fabricate all types of metal and alloy parts, working processes include pre-heating, brazing, flame-cutting, heat treating, bead or tack welding, and the use of templates and jigs as needed to bend and cut metal of various shapes, sizes, and thickness; Using blueprints, sketches, work orders, specifications, or other guides to plan, layout, and work orders to complete assignments; Operating a heavy equipment such as overhead cranes, dump truck, aria lifts, and forklifts to assures proper fit of required safety equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works under general supervision using accepted trade methods and various manual-welding processes to accomplish assignments. Determines work to be done, and welding techniques, materials, and steps to apply. Work is accomplished with little or no check while in-progress.

Completed work is reviewed for defects, and welds are subject to pressure tests, and x-ray inspection. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions such as when welding in hard to reach places.

May handle objects weighing twenty to fifty pounds, and occasionally objects weighing in excess of fifty pounds. Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position.

Duties include but are not limited to pushing and pulling bars and levers, winding cranks and winches, lifting and holding lines, climbing ladders and steep stairways, working in confined spaces, and working on steep and uneven ground.

Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 pounds with the assistance of one other person.
