Job Description
This job is responsible for supporting credit underwriting and monitoring for new and existing clients in partnership with a credit team. Key responsibilities include completing and reviewing credit analysis, evaluating risks, reviewing work by less experienced teammates, and writing financial analysis for approval or monitoring. Job expectations include leading the process, ensuring timely and accurate analysis, and coaching teammates on credit requirements.
The Commercial Real Estate Banking Underwriter (CREB Underwriter) is responsible for conducting credit analysis, developing credit recommendations/ supporting rationale, and managing the approval process for commercial real estate transactions. This role requires a strong understanding of applicable credit policies, regulatory requirements, and their impact on transaction structure and risk assessment.
As a key member of the CREB Enterprise Credit Origination team, the Underwriter is aligned with the whole CREN line of business, regions, and markets, partnering closely with credit teams across the Midwest and beyond. The Underwriter also manages a designated portfolio of clients within the Midwest coverage area and serves as a trusted partner throughout the credit lifecycle.
Reporting to a CREB Senior Credit Product Manager, the Underwriter works collaboratively with an assigned Credit Officer to evaluate, structure, and close new commercial real estate transactions, as well as execute material modifications to existing credit facilities.
Responsibilities
Leads the credit analysis process with the support of other analysts and associates
Partners with Credit Officers, Relationship Management, and Risk teammates to understand structuring needs and requirements
Monitors operating performance and financial condition, proactively identifying issues and opportunities
Assists in delivery of financial modeling, loan structure, industry, economic, and other analyses to team members to support the loan decision-making process
Participates in loan structure conversations and completion of loan documentation with internal/external legal partners
Evaluate and analyze new and modified credit exposures, including detailed assessments of collateral, market fundamentals, sponsorship strength, guarantor support, and other relevant risk factors to support credit recommendations.
Partner with Credit Officers in the preparation of screening memoranda, transaction structuring discussions, and term sheet development.
Lead due diligence efforts and coordinate data collection and analysis for new credit originations.
Prepare credit approval documentation and manage the transaction closing process from approval through execution.
Support the origination, renewal, modification, and extension of credit facilities, including transactions involving maturity extensions, commitment increases, covenant amendments, and other material changes.
Complete risk rating assessments, financial analysis, profitability modeling, and other underwriting activities required to support credit decisions.
Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements throughout the underwriting and approval process.
Required Qualifications
3+ yrs of experience in commercial real estate finance, with experience at a financial institution strongly preferred.
Strong credit, financial, and analytical skills, with the ability to identify key risks and mitigating factors.
Proficiency with financial analysis tools, underwriting systems, and Microsoft Office applications, with the aptitude to learn new technologies quickly.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Business, or a related field preferred.

Pay range
$95,000.00 - $125,000.00 annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.
