A minimum of 24 semester hours in the special education which includes 12 semester hours directly related to teaching students with visual impairments is required.

Types of visual impairment courses are characteristics of students with visual impairments, orientation and mobility, Braille instruction, medical/pathology of the eye, curriculum and assessment for students with visual impairment. Coursework in Braille is required.

An unencumbered professional teaching license in visual impairment or its state equivalent will be considered to have fulfilled these requirements.
