A minimum of 24 semester hours in the special education which includes 12 semester hours directly related to early childhood special education is required.
Types of courses for special education should include assessment and evaluation in special education, classroom and behavior management, IEP development, transition planning, curriculum and instructional strategies in special education, and collaboration skills with families, medical aspects, and speech language development.
An unencumbered professional teaching license in early childhood special education or its state equivalent will be considered to have fulfilled these requirements.
