Statistician

Applies a variety of complex mathematical and statistical theory and techniques and specialized quantitative areas to support the Operations Directorate, Agency's Quantitative Methods (QM Branch), and field elements.

Conducts rigorous analysis to solve highly complex problems and integrate mathematical and statistical methods to help validate and support findings of the audit, other reviews, and reports.

Provides advice in determining the appropriate advance statistical sampling, analytics and methodologies to use based on the derived or modified theory.

Advises on the formulation of mathematical models to produce critical and defensible results that support Agency audits.

Participates as a technical expert on DCAA working groups to include the Agency's Quantitative Methods (QM) Branch and other internal or external DoD workgroups and communities.

You must meet the minimum qualification requirements as stated in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/group-stds/gs-prof.asp. This position has a positive education and/or certification requirement.

Basic Requirement: Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.

Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 or equivalent level. Specialized experience must be documented in your resume.

Specialized experience is defined as: conducting studies requiring in-depth analysis of statistical program requirements; OR, providing administrative and technical coordination of a statistical operation associated with data collection/processing activities; OR, utilizing various software and computer programs to perform statistical data analyses and report findings.
