The Senior Software Engineer — .NET / Integration / Automation will serve as a hands-on technical contributor within Banner Solutions ' Chief Digital Officer organization, working directly with the Systems Architect to build and maintain the integrations, automation workflows, and AI-powered systems that run Banner's operations.

Reporting directly to the Systems Architect, this role is part of the CDO organization and operates across multiple platforms and business functions. The Senior Software Engineer will take architectural direction and independently carry substantial features or integrations through to completion.

This is not a ticket-driven role. The ideal candidate takes a well-framed problem, asks the right questions, makes the technical decisions that are theirs to make, and delivers working software — pulling the Systems Architect back in at the decision points that actually matter.

Integration & Systems Development

Build and maintain integration workflows connecting core platforms including P21 (ERP), Salesforce, Akeneo (PIM), Algolia, and Canals.ai — "make these three systems work together reliably" is a common problem here

Design and implement APIs, background jobs, and automation pipelines that handle real transactional volume reliably

Debug across system boundaries — trace problems through multiple systems rather than stopping at the code immediately in front of you

Ensure integrations perform well, fail gracefully, and are maintainable by the team over time

Write code with good testing instincts: how do we prove this works, what happens when it fails, and what edge cases are we missing?

AI-Augmented Development

Build integrations against LLM APIs — OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar — to power Banner's automation initiatives in areas including order processing, customer communications, and purchasing operations

Apply AI development tools fluently as part of daily work: to move faster, explore approaches, and think more thoroughly — while applying independent engineering judgment to what the tools produce

Contribute to automation workflows that reduce manual labor and improve operational consistency across Banner's distribution business

Technical Ownership & Judgment

Receive architectural direction from the Systems Architect and independently drive significant features or integrations through to completion

When something unexpected surfaces: investigate it, determine root cause, make the call if it's yours to make, and bring a clear recommendation back if it's architectural or business-related

Make normal technical decisions without asking permission — and recognize when a decision has crossed into territory that needs a conversation

Take business problems that aren't perfectly specified and turn them into working software, asking the questions that matter rather than waiting for a complete ticket

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience

5+ years of professional software development in a production environment

Experience within distribution, supply chain, e-commerce, or similarly complex operational environments preferred

Strong C#/.NET — this is the core of what Banner builds

Solid SQL — read stored procedures, write good queries, and recognize performance problems at scale

Comfortable with Azure and cloud environments — Banner is actively moving workloads to the cloud

API design, background services, and multi-system integration development

Able to debug across system boundaries, not just the code immediately in front of you

Good testing instincts for real-world edge cases and failure modes

Already using AI development tools effectively as a genuine part of daily work

Preferred

Hands-on experience integrating against LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) — rate limits, error handling, cost management, and applying them to real business problems rather than just experimentation

Experience with Epicor Prophet21 (P21) or a similarly complex distribution/wholesale ERP

Familiarity with Akeneo, Algolia, Salesforce, Canals.ai, or similar platforms

Experience building AI or automation workflows — document processing, workflow orchestration, or intelligent routing

EDI or supply chain integration experience

We'd rather hire a strong engineer who can learn our systems than narrow the pool for someone who happens to already know our exact stack.

Cultural Fit & Attributes

When something breaks: investigate it, prove what's happening, propose a fix that preserves intended behavior, and escalate only if it's architectural or business-related — not every problem needs to come back up

Takes well-framed problems, asks useful questions, and delivers working software rather than waiting for a complete specification

Comfortable making technical decisions independently, and calibrated about when a decision has crossed into territory that needs a conversation

Embody Banner Solutions ' values ofCourtesy, Respect, Quality, Professionalism, and Discipline

Genuinely collaborative — works well with the Systems Architect, cross-functional teams, and business stakeholders

Balance speed and quality — moves fast without creating problems that slow the team down later

Comfortable across both backend and web code — not helpless when something crosses a layer

Success will be measured by the ability to take ownership of substantial work and deliver it independently, with technical judgment, engineering quality, and escalation calibration that earns the confidence of the Systems Architect.

The Senior Software Engineer will help ensure

At least one significant integration or automation feature is delivered with minimal implementation-level direction

Problems are investigated and diagnosed rather than surfaced — escalations come with root cause analysis and a proposed solution

AI development tools are a measurable part of how this engineer works, accelerating delivery without compromising quality

The Systems Architect is confident handing a meaningful piece of the system to this engineer and trusting it will come back done

Technical decisions are made at the right level — autonomously when appropriate, escalated clearly when architectural or business-related
