SOFTWARE SOLUTION ENGINEER

for our Information Technology Department – Software Architecture team – product R&D role

As a member of our Software Architecture team, you will play an important role in designing, developing, verifying, and managing the lifecycle of software solutions for innovative medical and biotechnological devices. Working closely with experts from various disciplines, you will contribute to challenging projects, develop innovative solutions, and help deliver products that create value for our customers worldwide.

You are part of our Software Architecture Team and accountable for the design, development, verification, and lifecycle management of our Lucullus software platform.

In this role, you actively contribute to software development, provide technical leadership, and oversee the software development, integration, and verification of our innovative devices.

Lucullus is our process information management platform for bioprocess labs: it connects and controls lab devices and bioreactors, acquires and stores process data, and supports experiment planning and analysis.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Design and evolve the architecture of the Lucullus platform (modules, APIs, data model, device-integration layer) and document key decisions in architecture decision records and design specifications.

• Implement key components yourself (approx. 50% of time is hands-on design and coding)

• Own the non-functional requirements: performance, reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability.

• Prototype and evaluate new technologies before they are adopted in the product.

• Create, review, and maintain technical documentation, including specifications and design descriptions.

• Support requirements management, risk management, and compliance activities in accordance with applicable standards and quality requirements.

• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, and Product Management.

You are comfortable providing technical leadership within cross-functional and agile teams. You would rather design and build than coordinate: you enjoy writing code, sketching architecture, and defending technical trade-offs with facts. Leading here means leading by technical example, not by managing people or schedules.

YOUR PROFILE

• Completed studies (FH / Uni / ETH) in Engineering, preferably Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology.

• At least 3years of experience in software development.

• Strong expertise in software development with experience in enterprise-grade applications. Hands-on approach.

• Ability to collaborate effectively, translating architectural decisions into technical solutions across teams.

• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complexity in a large technical stack.

• Ability to mentor engineers and drive technical decisions through design reviews, code reviews.

• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD tools, and automation frameworks.

• Proficiency in Linux environments, particularly with LTS distributions and Oracle Linux (preferred but open to alternatives).

• Industry experience in Medtech/Biotech and in (bio)process technology is not a prerequisite; however, there must be a strong interest and awareness that the environment is regulated.

• Experience working with enterprise databases, particularly Oracle DB and PostgreSQL.

• Solid understanding of security best practices, compliance, and secure coding methodologies.

• A valid work permit is required, and only direct applications will be taken into consideration (no agencies)

• Experience in biotechnology, bioprocessing, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, or life sciences (nice to have)

• Proven track record of designing and personally implementing software systems end-to-end
