## Company Description ##

We are seeking a Principal Scientist - Application Technology to join our organization in Muenchwilen, Switzerland. In this pivotal role, you will drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge application technologies, leveraging your deep scientific expertise to solve complex technical challenges. As a Principal Scientist, you will combine analytical rigor with visionary thinking to advance our technological capabilities and establish new standards in application development.

As a member of the Application Technology (AT) group, the role provides technical expertise and innovative solutions for the safe, efficient and effective application of Syngenta products.

The primary focus is end-to-end ownership of product testing ensuring that products are compatible with and perform reliably across a range of application technologies commonly used in different crops around the globe.

The role supports PT&E-s product development strategy by generating robust evidence, identifying risks and opportunities, and translating customer needs into clear technical recommendations, while using innovative thinking and data-driven approaches to enhance testing methods, strengthen technical decision-making and develop new application solutions.

## Job Description ##

* Own Fit-for-Use testing from definition of product design specification through execution, data analysis, interpretation, and communication.

* Define risk-based test plans, methods, acceptance criteria and evidence requirements appropriate to each phase of product development.

* Provide Application Technology expertise to support product development across the stage plan.

* Identify application risks, compatibility issues and customer needs early, and take **Accountability** for driving appropriate actions to resolution

* Foster open **Collaboration** throughout PT&E while connecting with other CPRD and Commercial functions to enable differentiated product-development outcomes

* Bring a **Curious** mindset to problem-solving by exploring alternative approaches, emerging technologies and data sources to identify effective application solutions.

* Show **Courage** in technical discussions by raising risks early, challenging assumptions constructively and making evidence-based recommendations.

* Anticipate developments in equipment, automation, digital, precision application and delivery systems, and translate them into new testing capabilities or product opportunities.

* Develop improved test methods, technical solutions and application concepts that strengthen product performance, customer experience and sustainability.

* Accountable for application and laboratory operations, working closely with the site workshop and external service providers to coordinate maintenance and equipment upgrades.

* Drive innovation in product development by looking for opportunities in automation, data capture and analyses, and digital tools

* Champion a strong HSE culture by making health, safety and environmental responsibility integral to all laboratory and field activities, proactively identifying risks and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and procedures.

**Knowledge, experience, education & capabilities**

* University degree in agronomy, biology, agricultural engineering, or related scientific or engineering discipline; an MSc and/or PhD is preferred.

* Strong knowledge of crop protection application technologies, agronomy and product-use practices.

* Ability to define test strategies, interpret technical data and provide clear recommendations to multidisciplinary teams.

* Strong project management, analytical thinking, innovation, and communication skills.

* Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

* Practical, customer-focused mindset with strong attention to safety and data quality.

* Demonstrates a proactive and adaptable personality, showing **Accountability** for outcomes, **Curiosity** to explore and improve, **Collaboration** across diverse teams and stakeholders, and **Courage** to raise concerns, challenge assumptions constructively and make evidence-based recommendations.

* Fluent in English; German is an advantage. Additional languages are beneficial.

**Working arrangement**

* The role requires regular on-site presence for experimental work. Home office may be used on demand when compatible with planned activities and is expected to represent approximately 10% of working time.

* Travel may be required between sites, especially in Europe (up to 10%).
