The Center for Radiopharmaceutical Sciences (CRS), a joint research center of ETH Zurich and Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), is internationally recognized for its pioneering research in radiopharmaceutical chemistry, and targeted radionuclide therapy. The research group of Prof. Roger Schibli develops innovative radiopharmaceuticals for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other severe diseases.
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join the Schibli Group within a newly funded interdisciplinary ETH research project conducted in close collaboration with the laboratory of Prof. Kaspar Locher (Department of Biology, ETH Zurich).
## Project background ##
Peptides and nanobodies are highly promising molecules for molecular imaging and targeted therapies. However, their clinical translation is often limited by unfavorable pharmacokinetic properties, including rapid blood clearance and high kidney uptake.
This project aims to investigate how defined N-glycosylation can improve the biological and pharmacological properties of therapeutic and diagnostic peptides and nanobodies.
Novel glycoengineered biomolecules generated in the Locher laboratory will be radiolabeled and systematically evaluated using advanced in vitro and in vivo methodologies established in the Schibli laboratory. The project combines cutting-edge glycobiology, radiopharmaceutical sciences, targeted radionuclide therapy, and translational research.
## Job description ##
*As a PhD student, you will:*
* *Develop and optimize radiolabeling strategies for glycosylated peptides and nanobodies using diagnostic and therapeutic radionuclides.*
* *Perform quality control and analytical characterization of newly developed radiopharmaceuticals.*
* *Conduct cell-based binding, uptake, and internalization studies.*
* *Plan, perform, and analyze preclinical biodistribution, PET, and SPECT imaging studies in mouse models.*
* *Investigate pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of novel radiolabeled compounds.*
* *Work in a interdisciplinary environment*
* *Collaborate closely with a PhD student in the Locher laboratory to design and optimize glycosylated peptide and nanobody constructs.*
* *Present research findings at international conferences and publish results in leading scientific journals.*
## Profile ##
*You should have:*
* *A Master's degree with excellent academic record in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.*
* *Strong interest in radiopharmaceutical sciences, molecular imaging, protein engineering, glycobiology, or bioconjugation chemistry.*
* *Practical experience in one or more of the following areas:*
* *Radiochemistry or radiopharmacy*
* *Cell biology and cell culture techniques*
* *Protein or peptide chemistry*
* *Preclinical in vivo research*
* *Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.*
* *Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and international environment.*
* *Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.*
*Prior experience in radiopharmaceutical research, PET/SPECT imaging, or animal studies is considered an advantage but is not required.*
