The posting

You will be responsible for the administrative and technical management of the branch and will lead a team of diverse engineers, and scientists as their first line supervisor, reporting directly to the Division Head.

You will hire and maintain a knowledgeable branch who utilize effective processes to accomplish their tasks, meet the needs of customers, and provide high-quality products.

You will Identify resources, develop priorities that are aligned with department guidance, and assign all work in support of project tasking and in accordance with those priorities.

You will provide technical and management oversight for project tasking and review and comment on significant technical products.

You will maintain awareness of branch employees’ progress with respect to product development plans and proactively intervene as soon as risk factors become evident.

You will account for product development and accurate costing on all tasks assigned to your branch.

You will develop a skilled workforce by collaborating with employees on Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and career plans, facilitating appropriate training opportunities, and mentoring.

You will Conduct performance appraisals (develop performance standards, conduct periodic performance discussions, complete midyear and end-of year reviews).

You will support personnel mentoring via career guidance discussions, technical assistance, and overall support.

You will develop near-term and far-term branch goals that support higher-level organizational goals and communicate these goals to employees.

You will address all safety, environmental, Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA), mandatory training, and other action items and data calls.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-09/11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer or scientist directing and managing the personnel and facilities responsible for the Ocean and Physical Science portfolio that provides technical support, and strategic recommendations in support the divisions technical, marine species protection and environmental initiatives.
