Nurse (Educator)

Plans and develops course materials and presents lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises in the area of Public Health and Public Health Nursing to provide knowledge and skills for Army Medical Department Officers.

Research current scientific literature to ensure that all instructional materials are up to date and accurate which includes rewrites lesson plans as required by changes in doctrine and curriculum development.

Collaborates with both civilian and military subject matter experts in the Public Health, Infectious Disease, Laboratory Science, and Infection Control to develop and maintain current training programs and courses.

Develops and revises educational courses, addressing disease control and prevention and health and wellness programs to ensure the educational needs of all levels of students are met.

Additional responsibilities include scheduling, facilitation, and coordination of the Fundamentals of Occupational Medicine Course and the Preventive Medicine Senior Leaders Course.

Responsible for managing and planning the course, conducting day to day operations, and instruction of classes

Maintains class administrator checklist and prepares and submits necessary administrative reports.

Develop and facilitate clinical experiences for Public Health.

Basic Requirements for Nurse (Educator): Education: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GS-12 Specialized Experience: A minimum of one full year of specialized experience which includes providing graduate-level education and training in public health to seasoned medical professionals, including Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Registered Nurses, Environmental Science and Nuclear Medicine Officers, Audiologists, Veterinarians, and Senior Enlisted Soldiers.

This includes applying professional knowledge of public health, infection control, and Public Health Nursing (PHN) principles to design, implement, and administer graduate-level curriculum and continuing education credits.

Further experience involves planning course materials and presenting lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises in Epidemiology, Population Health Management, and Public Health Nursing to prepare Army Medical Department Officers for Public Health and Force Health Protection roles.

Additionally, this includes continuously revising course content, objectives, and lectures to reflect evidence-based practices, disease surveillance data, and epidemiological trends, while coordinating outside instructors and participating in Field/Situational Training Exercises (FTX/STX) and off-site learning experiences.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
