Test Automation Engineer

The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining manual and automated testing solutions that ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of software products in Core Banking. The role combines strong technical expertise with a quality-driven mindset and supports development teams in integrating automated tests early and continuously into the software development lifecycle.

In addition to test automation, the role contributes to modern software delivery practices by integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, supporting release automation, and helping teams improve feedback cycles, deployment reliability, and overall delivery efficiency. This position is not a pure DevOps role, but requires solid DevOps skills to ensure that quality automation becomes an integrated part of the end-to-end delivery process.

Key Responsibilities

Test Design and Implementation

Plan test phases and design test concepts.

Design, execute, and maintain manual and automated tests.

Develop and maintain automated test scripts for UI, API, and SAP GUI testing.

Select appropriate automation frameworks and tools based on product needs.

Ensure test automation code follows clean coding, maintainability, and reusability principles.

Identify automation opportunities across the test pyramid.

Continuously improve test coverage, stability, and reliability.

Quality Assurance and Validation

Collaborate with developers, product owners, and other stakeholders to define test strategies and acceptance criteria.

Analyze requirements and identify quality risks early in the development lifecycle.

Support teams in applying suitable testing methodologies and quality engineering practices.

Ensure automated tests are integrated early and continuously into the software development lifecycle.

CI/CD and DevOps Support

Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable fast and stable feedback cycles.

Support the setup and maintenance of build, test, and deployment pipelines.

Contribute to the implementation of quality gates within CI/CD processes.

Support release and deployment automation where required.

Collaborate with development and operations teams to improve delivery stability and reduce manual effort.

Help teams adopt modern testing and DevOps practices without shifting the role into a full DevOps engineering position.

Defect Analysis and Reporting

Analyze test results and provide clear, actionable defect reports.

Support root cause analysis for test failures, pipeline issues, and deployment-related defects.

Provide transparent quality metrics and reporting to development teams and stakeholders.

Help identify recurring issues and drive continuous improvement of test and delivery processes.

Environment and Tooling Support

Support the reliable execution of automated tests across different environments.

Collaborate with development and DevOps teams on test environment readiness.

Support basic containerized test execution using tools such as Docker.

Contribute to improving consistency and repeatability of test execution in CI/CD environments.

Requirements

Technical Skills

Around 3-6 years of experience in test automation, quality engineering, or software testing.

Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.

Hands-on experience with automation frameworks such as Playwright.

Experience with SAP GUI testing and SAP GUI test automation.

Strong understanding of API testing and tools such as Bruno or similar.

Experience with version control systems, especially Git.

Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar.

Basic understanding of DevOps concepts, CI/CD pipelines, and delivery automation.

Basic knowledge of containerization, especially Docker.

Quality and Methodology Skills

Solid understanding of software testing methodologies, ISTQB principles, test design techniques, and the test pyramid.

Ability to define automation strategies aligned with business priorities.

Understanding of agile product development environments.

Ability to balance test automation, quality expectations, and delivery efficiency.

Nice to Have

Experience in Financial Services or Banking.

Experience with SAP environments.

Experience with cloud-based development or delivery platforms.

Experience with monitoring, reporting, or observability tools.

ISTQB certification or similar credentials.
