Training Instructor

Analyzes teaching and training methods, keeping abreast of latest developments as they pertain to subject matter and supplementing changes as they occur.

Conducts surveys to determine Thrift Savings Plan participant and beneficiaries’ training needs to create new courses and modify existing ones.

Reviews the use of training aids, instructional techniques and supporting materials to enhance the learner experience.

Updates electronic records of training scheduled and conducted with, attendance, classroom conduct, student learning, and student satisfaction.

Provides training to groups ranging in size from 20 to 1000 people on-site and several hundred more via video-teleconferencing technologies.

To be eligible for this position, you must meet both the Individual Occupational Requirement and the GS-09 specialized experience requirement described below.

Individual Occupational Requirement Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or higher degree with a major field of study in Education or another field directly related to the duties of this position.

Examples of qualifying fields of study include Finance, Economics, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Education, Instructional Design, Communications, or other closely related fields.

OR Specialized Experience: Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program.

Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

GS-09 Specialized Experience Requirement To qualify at the GS-09 grade level through experience, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level. Your experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.

The examples below describe the types of experience that demonstrate the required specialized experience.

Your resume must clearly show how your experience meets all of the specialized experience requirements listed below: Delivering instructor-led training, presentations, or briefings to groups of participants to communicate program information and improve understanding of policies, procedures, products, or services.

Modifying existing training materials, presentations, visual aids, or job aids to address the learning needs of diverse audiences and improve participant engagement. Collecting and evaluate participant feedback, survey results, or learning assessments to identify training needs and recommend improvements to instructional delivery or materials.

Using virtual training platforms, presentation technologies, or classroom equipment and maintain training documentation, attendance records, and participant information to support training operations and measure results. Important: Applicants qualifying through specialized experience must clearly describe their experience in their own words.

Human Resources will review the resume to determine whether the applicant has demonstrated all specialized experience requirements. Experience not documented in the resume cannot be credited.

What Counts as Experience We consider both paid and unpaid experience, including but not limited to volunteer work with organizations like the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, or other community groups. Volunteer work can help you develop skills that are directly relevant to this job. A full year of work means working 35-40 hours per week.
