Product Designer II

About The Role

Built Technologies is the AI-first platform for construction and real estate finance, trusted by Goldman Sachs, Fifth Third, and 45 of the top 100 U.S. banks to manage over $300 billion in annual capital.

The design challenges at Built are genuinely complex: the lenders, owners, developers, and contractors using our platform are navigating high-stakes financial workflows where clarity, accuracy, and trust are not nice-to-haves — they are requirements.

Making those workflows feel simple and human without sacrificing depth is the central design problem. The Product Designer II is a practitioner ready to own meaningful pieces of that problem independently.

This role is for a designer who has built a solid foundation and is ready to drive design decisions with greater autonomy. You independently own design work across features and product areas with growing complexity, lead research activities, and are actively developing your ability to scope problems and communicate design rationale to cross-functional partners.

Our Guiding Principles

Be Bold. We pursue the biggest problems in our industry, challenge assumptions others take for granted, and take calculated risks to get there. We don’t hide behind consensus or committees. Playing it safe is just failing slowly.

Help Customers Win. We learn our customers’ businesses deeply — how they think, how they deploy capital, what keeps them up at night. We treat their capital like our own. We ship leverage, not features. And we measure ourselves by customer results, not our intentions.

Move with Urgency & Purpose. We bias toward delivery over perfection, remove friction from our own paths, and communicate in real time. Momentum compounds — and we build it every day.

Own the Outcome. We own outcomes, not just tasks. We hold a high Say:Do ratio and take responsibility from idea through impact. When something breaks, we fix it — we don’t wait to be asked.

Never Satisfied. We raise the bar continuously. We stay curious, hold exacting standards, debate hard, and hold our opinions loosely when the evidence shifts. Excellence is a habit, not an event.

What You’ll Do

Own design execution for features and workflows across Built’s platform — from discovery through delivery — including the draw management, budget tracking, and compliance surfaces that lenders and borrowers depend on.

Lead user research activities including customer interviews, usability tests, and synthesis sessions — becoming a genuine expert in how lenders, owners, contractors, and inspectors use Built.

Create user flows, journey maps, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups with increasing complexity — choosing the right fidelity for the question at hand rather than defaulting to one approach.

Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to ensure designs are feasible, well-understood, and implemented with fidelity to intent.

Contribute to and maintain the design system, identifying opportunities to improve shared components and patterns across the product portfolio.

Clearly articulate design decisions and trade-offs to cross-functional stakeholders — framing rationale in terms of user needs and business outcomes, not just aesthetics.

  • Incorporate data and behavioral insights to validate and iterate on design solutions — using evidence to challenge your own assumptions.

Support more junior designers through informal feedback and collaboration, sharing your process and approach openly.

What You’ll Bring

2–4+ years of experience in product or UX design within a SaaS or digital product environment.

Strong proficiency in Figma and prototyping tools — you work efficiently at multiple fidelity levels and prototype thoughtfully to answer specific questions.

Demonstrated ability to handle end-to-end design for product features independently — from research and problem framing through execution and QA.

Solid understanding of UX research methods and when to apply them — you know the difference between generative and evaluative research and can lead both.

  • A portfolio showing thoughtful problem-framing and well-executed design solutions — work that reflects how you think, not just the final output.

A clear and confident communicator who can present work, defend decisions, and incorporate feedback without becoming defensive.

Attention to accessibility and inclusive design best practices is a meaningful plus.

What Success Looks Like at Six Months

You are independently owning design for at least one feature area — from research through shipped experience — and the quality of what ships reflects your design intent.

  • Product managers and engineers treat you as a reliable, proactive design partner who contributes perspective beyond just executing to spec.

You have led at least one user research session with real customers and used the findings to inform or adjust a design direction.

Your design system contributions are accurate, well-considered, and improve consistency across the product.

You are developing genuine depth in construction finance domain knowledge — you understand Built’s customer segments and can explain how design decisions affect their real work.

AI & Technology Expectations

Leverage AI tools to enhance the productivity, quality, and speed of your work.

Use AI to support drafting, analysis, summarization, and problem-solving across your role.

Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce manual effort through automation and AI.

Apply AI to sharpen decision-making and strengthen strategic insights.

  • Share effective AI use cases and best practices with your team.

Built’s salary range for this position is $100,000 - 125,000 USD per year. The pay range is designed to accommodate upward mobility in the role, therefore it encompasses the full span of proficiency levels for this role and we believe that the midpoint of the range is competitive in the market.

Salary is just one component of Built's total compensation package for employees; your total rewards package at Built will include equity, market-current medical, dental and vision coverage, an unlimited PTO policy, and other benefits.
