ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE (FORENSIC HEALTHCARE PROGRAM MANAGER)

Serves as the Forensic Healthcare Program Medical Director and Forensic Healthcare Program Manager (FHP-D/M) to ensure patients within the Military Health System receive proper forensic nursing care in accordance with local and national policies.

Conduct targeted medical forensic healthcare examinations for patients reporting sexual assault or other unwanted physical violence.

Ensure a high level of health care for patients with chronic and acute illnesses and injury.

Participate in patient education to promote the effective involvement of patients in their care.

Oversee the process for approval of travel in support of the Forensic Healthcare team.

Develop and presents formal and informal briefings and presentations at multiple levels. Provides leadership, mentoring and consultation to the MTF and installation leadership.

Provide educational services to Sexual Assault Response Program (SAPR), Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARCs), Victim Advocates (VA), Family Advocacy Program (SAP).

Provide Emergency Nursing care to Emergency Department patients when not performing Forensic Nursing responsibilities.

Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.

This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.

Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link).

In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.

Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes forensic nursing care to victims or suspected perpetrators of sexual assault, documenting patient care, and educating patient or staff on topics relating to sexual assault.

This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-0610-11). Certificate in Sexual Assault Forensic Examinations preferred. One or more years of clinical experience in Forensic Healthcare preferred.
