Job title: Accompanying Responsible Adults
Reporting to: Associate Director of Healthcare services and Associate Director of Nursing
JOB PURPOSE
The Accompanying Responsible Adults will support a student during a medical appointment at the request of Health Centre staff, providing translation, explanation, and reassurance as needed.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Confidentiality, Consent and Consultation Privacy: All medical information disclosed during the consultation must be treated with the strictest confidentiality and shared only with individuals directly involved in the student’s ongoing care. (cf Guideline on communication).
From the age of 10, where a student is deemed to have capacity of discernment, the student must be able to express their preference regarding the presence or absence of a Responsible Adult during the consultation. This preference must be respected, unless an overriding medical or safeguarding concern requires otherwise.
Respect and Dignity: Interact with the student in a respectful and appropriate manner, refraining from making any derogatory, judgemental, or prejudicial remarks.
Consultation Outcome: Report the outcome of the consultation to Health Centre staff upon returning to the College, including any medical reports and prescriptions.
Professionalism: Avoid making any comments that could question the competence, professionalism, or integrity of healthcare professionals in the presence of the student.
Compensation: Remuneration will be provided on an hourly basis, together with reimbursement for any necessary expenses (e.g. telephone calls). If the student does not attend the appointment, compensation of 30 minutes to 1 hour will be provided to account for time spent and inconvenience.
Transport Arrangements: Staff are not permitted to use personal vehicles for student transport. Health Centre staff will arrange taxis or other appropriate transportation as required.
OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Undertake any other task which may be reasonably required by Associate Director of Healthcare services and Associate Director of Nursing to assist in the smooth running of the Health Centre.
Understand and implement all school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding children and young people.
Understand the School’s Guiding Principles and uphold the ethos of the School at all times.
