MAINTENANCE WORKER (LODGING)

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks involved in the maintenance, upkeep, and construction of Lodging buildings, grounds, and related equipment, fixtures and utilities.

Applies a basic knowledge of carpentry, painting, electricity and plumbing in performing minor maintenance and self-help construction of assigned buildings and structures.

Plans and lays out work from drawings, oral and/or written instructions by selecting materials/tools (i.e., hand or portable powered) of the carpentry trade to be used for measuring and cutting material to required length.

Performs minor electrical work and basic plumbing tasks such as replacing switches, outlets, fixtures or bulbs, worn faucets and fixtures and clears clogged drains. Maintains, assembles and makes minor repairs to furniture and other assigned equipment including lawnmowers, edgers and weedeaters; orders and picks up parts as required or directed.

Operates and performs minor vehicle operator maintenance on a variety of assigned vehicles to transport personnel, supplies, materials, or equipment in accordance with applicable instructions and completes records/reports required during vehicle usage.

Demonstrated proficiency with an assortment of common hand and power tools required in this position. Knowledge of a variety of accepted trade's practices in related maintenance and construction areas. Ability to read, write and speak English and be able to communicate effectively.

Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions and ensure completion of assigned tasks. Ability to recognize maintenance problems and to take appropriate corrective action. Ability to safely operate an assortment of Lodging vehicles.

Experience with and knowledge of personal computers and of word and data processing programs is desirable.
