Maintenance Technician

WHAT’S THE JOB?

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor/Site Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and troubleshooting of kitchen appliances, plumbing, electrical systems, and infrastructure within a remote camp facility.

This role requires electrical, carpentry, and plumbing knowledge, practical experience in appliance maintenance, and the ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced environment. The Maintenance Technician ensures minimal downtime and uninterrupted camp operations through proactive maintenance, timely repairs, and emergency response.

Your work will include

Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on kitchen appliances (ovens, fridges, dishwashers, deep fryers, etc.) and electrical systems across camp facilities.

Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on the camp's plumbing and lift station systems.

Conduct regular inspections of all electrical appliances and systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.

Work independently with limited supervision, managing time and priorities efficiently.

Collaborate with other maintenance staff and camp management to address equipment and infrastructure concerns promptly.

Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on minimizing operational downtime.

Support uninterrupted camp operations by ensuring all equipment, appliances, and systems are functional and reliable.

Contribute to a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained camp environment for all personnel.

Maintain professionalism and clear communication when reporting issues and working with the camp team.

Manage inventory of spare parts and tools necessary for repairs, ordering supplies as required to maintain adequate stock levels.

Support cost-effective operations through proactive preventive maintenance that extends equipment life and reduces emergency repairs.

Use materials and resources efficiently to minimize waste and unnecessary costs.

Quickly diagnose and repair electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues in appliances and kitchen equipment.

Assist with the installation and commissioning of new kitchen appliances, plumbing, and electrical systems as needed.

Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in compliance with company policies and safety regulations.

Respond promptly to emergency maintenance calls related to electrical failures or appliance breakdowns.

Follow all health and safety standards, including procedures specific to remote work environments.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

High school diploma or equivalent. Journeyman Plumber or Electrician certification is an asset. First Aid with CPR certification is an asset.

Experience working in remote or fly-in/fly-out camps in Canada, particularly in industrial or commercial settings.

Hands-on experience with kitchen appliances, including refrigeration units, ovens, fryers, dishwashers, and other commercial kitchen equipment.

Experience with preventative maintenance programs and record-keeping systems.

Strong knowledge of electrical, circuits, and troubleshooting techniques.

Strong knowledge of plumbing systems and camp lift stations.

Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults in appliances and electrical systems.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.

Safety-conscious and familiar with health and safety standards in remote environment.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Flexibility and adaptability to work in challenging environments with varying weather and remote conditions.

Excellent communication skills.

Must pass drug, alcohol, and fitness testing.

Physically capable of

Lifting up to 50 lbs.

Working in confined spaces.

Working outdoors in extreme weather conditions.

Performing manual repair and maintenance tasks.
