Maintenance Mechanic

This position is located at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Office of Facilities and Property Management, Boulder Facility Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of this position is the operation, repair and maintenance of exterior grounds and systems in a research and development facility/campus.

As a Grounds Maintenance Mechanic, you will: - perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of grounds, buildings and related structures, fixtures and utilities. - Install, operate, maintain and repair exterior civil/building systems. - Perform basic plumbing and carpentry, maintain and operate the site irrigation, maintain the grounds landscape through mowing, line trimming and pruning. - Perform site irrigation duties which include operating and repairing the irrigation system throughout the site which consists of a pump-house, time clocks, zone valves, sprinkler heads and piping.

This position is a primary member of the snow removal team during winter operations and may act as a backup to the snow crew chief on occasion, which include operating snow blowers, plows, heavy equipment and shovels to clear site walkways, parking lots and building entrances.

Snow removal duties can be assigned out of hours or during normal business hours as the weather events occur.

There is no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance mechanic worker duties, such as those described in the duties section of this announcement, without more than normal supervision.

Applicants must have experience in irrigation systems, carpentry and plumbing. A valid state Driver's License is required for this position. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs; therefore, please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package.
