About the Role

Reporting to the 2IC Field Services, the Field Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting maintenance activities and ensuring the ongoing availability of Combat Training Centre – Live Instrumentation System (CTC-LIS) equipment.

This hands-on role supports the preparation, deployment and maintenance of CTC-LIS Relay Stations, including diagnosis and repair of telecommunications equipment such as UHF, microwave and LTE systems, as well as basic servicing and maintenance of diesel-powered generators.

This position requires significant time deployed away from Townsville to various Australian Army and non-Defence training areas. During Force-on-Force exercise phases, you will work in a small team environment providing 24-hour maintenance coverage in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct inspections, maintenance and associated repairs of CTC-LIS instrumentation and telemetry equipment.

Diagnose and repair telecommunications equipment, including UHF, microwave and LTE systems.

Conduct pre-deployment readiness checks of telemetry and mechanical equipment.

Maintain CTC-LIS equipment during field deployments.

Service and perform minor repairs to diesel-powered generators.

Provide technical advice and assistance during instrumentation function checking phases.

Be prepared to deputise for the 2IC Field Services during periods of absence.

Assume a leadership role within a small team environment during field deployments when required.

About You

You are a capable and motivated technician with strong fault-finding skills, sound communication ability and the confidence to work in both field and workshop environments. You are comfortable operating in dynamic conditions, prioritising maintenance issues and clearly communicating intent and outcomes.

Background and Experience

Experience in the installation and maintenance of communications systems.

Basic knowledge and understanding of electronics and electrical principles.

Proven fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

Ability to identify, analyse and prioritise maintenance issues.

Ability to work effectively in both field and workshop environments.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Experience using IT systems and programs.

Conditions of Employment

Certificate III in Telecommunications, Electrotechnology or a comparable qualification.

Clean Heavy Truck Licence to drive company equipment, or willingness to undertake training to obtain one.

Vehicle Loading Crane high risk licence, or willingness to undertake training to obtain one.

Work at Heights qualification, or willingness to undertake training to obtain one.

Forklift licence, or willingness to undertake training to obtain one.

Successful completion of a National Police Check.

Ability to obtain and hold an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency security clearance.

Working Environment

This role requires significant time deployed in the field and flexibility to support business operations across multiple time zones. From time to time, you may be required to monitor and respond to telephone calls, emails and other necessary communications from Cubic, customers or suppliers outside ordinary working hours to support critical issues or business needs.
