You will use specialized knowledge of photographic archives, databases, and rights management to curate, catalog, and produce descriptive subject guides and/or finding aids for researchers and staff.
You will maintain photo metadata authority files (including personal names, vessels, aircraft, naval operations, conflicts, etc.), establish and revise accession records, and develop cross-references and analytics as needed.
You will participate in collection management and development for the Photo Archive, assisting with the acquisition, donation, organization, maintenance, preservation, and deaccession of materials.
You will digitize a variety of historic naval photographic materials (i.e., glass plates negatives, prints, film) for digitization projects and to fulfill Requests for Information and publish digital assets onto the NHHC website.
You will coordinate conservation and preservation strategies across all photographic collections, maintaining environmental, housing, and specialized treatment of all photographic formats.
You will need to provide comprehensive reference, research, copyright advisory, and instructional services to individuals and groups.
You will provide reference and research support through in-person appointments, email correspondence, and telephone inquiries.
GS-11: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying a comprehensive knowledge of library functions to modify standard library practices, precedents and techniques; adapt computer systems; or make significant departures from previous approaches to similar problems or projects to solve a variety of information access, dissemination and preservation problems; 2) Applying principles, concepts, and methodology of cataloging policies and procedures that enable access to a specialized collection of materials; 3) Locating information related to naval maritime and military history from a wide variety of published and unpublished sources and electronic databases; 4) Assisting in cataloging of difficult material, sometimes requiring considerable knowledge of naval, maritime, military and American history and the social sciences; and 5) Creating specialized bibliographies (subjects, serials, cruise books, rare books, maps, and audiovisuals).

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying basic principles, concepts, and methodology of cataloging policies and procedures; 2) Assisting with locating information related to naval maritime and military history from a wide variety of published and unpublished sources and electronic databases; 3) Assisting senior staff in cataloging material; and 4) Annotating bibliographies on specific subjects and compiling the information packages.
