As a General Attorney (Labor) (Appellate Litigation Attorney), GS-0905-12, your typical work assignments may include: Determining legal issues involved and conducting extensive research, studying court and Board decisions, legislative history, etc., for direct or analogous precedents, if any, and authorities in support of the Board's contentions.

Preparing numerous documents such as answers, motions, stipulations, oppositions and other pleadings which involve the merits of the case. Preparing and presenting oral arguments in the Court of Appeals in assigned cases.

Preparing briefs containing a concise statement of the facts of cases and the presentation of the legal arguments, including requisite citations of authority, in the manner deemed most likely to persuade Courts to sustain the Board's position.

Analyzing opposing briefs or pleadings to determine whether replies should be filed and prepares such replies and/or supplementary briefs as required.

All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT The ideal candidate for the General Attorney (Labor) will have working knowledge in traditional labor or employment law.

The candidate has demonstrated an ability to provide expert legal analysis and advocacy in an efficient manner on complicated matters. The candidate has experience drafting complex legal arguments and has exemplary legal research and written and oral communications skills.

BASIC REQUIREMENT Education: Must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.). Law school transcripts must be submitted at the time of application.

Bar Membership and Certification: Must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Your active Bar license must reference Bar number and indicate the status of good standing.

Agency Internal Self-Certification Forms are not acceptable for verification.

In addition to the BASIC REQUIREMENT, applicants must also meet the following: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Applicants must have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which has provided them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a General Attorney (Labor) (Appellate Litigation Attorney) at the GS-13 grade level.

Specialized experience includes: Experience working with labor laws and conducting research such as reviewing statutes, decisions, opinions, or legislative history; and Experience drafting written documents, such as legal memoranda or briefs; and Experience presenting oral arguments or making oral presentations.
