Custodial Worker

You will work alone or as a member of a crew, performing a full range of janitorial duties to include:

Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors, using heavy industrial powered equipment.

Wash and clean windows inside and outside of building.

Use brushes, buckets, squeegees, chamois, cleaning cloths, and cleaning solutions.

Assist in special preparations for special displays, customer appreciation sales, holiday sales, or other promotion activities in the commissary.

Perform seasonal tasks such as: cutting grass, pulling weeds, and trimming bushes.

Who May Apply: US Citizens Competition for Custodial Worker positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. If there are no Veterans preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Custodial Worker~ without more than normal supervision. Performing the common tasks of cleaning up spills, trash removal, moving boxes and removing stains - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.

Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order) Physical Effort - Must move and control heavy equipment. carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds regularly.

Working Conditions - Works within the commissary indoor areas most of the time; however, occasionally must work out of doors to accomplish cleaning tasks. Is exposed to conditions inherent in cleaning tasks such as skin irritations and chapped hands from working with strong cleaning agents.

Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment. Indoor work areas normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation
