Budget Analyst

As a Budget Analyst, some of your typical work assignments may include: Preparing and reviewing budget estimates for assigned organizations; developing budget formulation guidance and interpreting budget policies; ensuring compliance with statutes, OMB requirements, congressional intent, and Commission authority.

Analyzing office budget submissions; compiling and preparing budget justifications for OMB and Congress; researching and preparing facts and issues for inquiries, testimony, etc.; ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper presentation of budget estimates.

Participating in all areas of funds control, particularly to ensure that funds are allocated efficiently and effectively to support program objectives and that program limits are not exceeded.

Monitoring expenditures, forecasting resource needs, preparing financial documents (spending plans, operating plans, status of funds), and identifying and analyzing trends/anomalies in obligations and expenditures in budget execution using established automated systems and applications.

Assisting in the coordination, presentation, and communication of budget requirements and priorities to Commission administration, management, and program office partners.

Compiling budget and financial data and creating analytical reports, charts, and summaries; providing guidance to program offices; collaborating across organizations; and offering advice during budget preparation and execution processes.

Specialized experience is defined as: Experience supporting (1) the formulation and justification of budget by analyzing program submissions, ensuring compliance with statutes and OMB requirements, preparing materials for leadership and external stakeholders and (2) monitoring execution of budget by tracking, forecasting, analyzing and reporting obligations and expenditures to inform resource planning and decision making.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
