Job Description

Docplanner is fostering the reinvention of product development, and above all transforming how we approach coding with AI. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager who will lead this transformation from the front lines, while owning the Patient Engagement area.

You will lead a group of 7–9 engineers organised into several small squads, each owning a distinct business goal. Your job is to keep those squads fast, focused and genuinely AI-native, and to stay hands-on in the code yourself. This is not a hands-off role.

What makes it different is the mindset it asks for. AI-assisted coding is already part of how we work; the next level is turning it into a step change in how quickly we go from an idea to a validated answer. That takes a founder's instincts i.e. running cheap experiments to test assumptions, dropping what doesn't work, and repointing a squad when the user need turns out to be different from what we assumed.

The scope is meaningful: Patient Engagement initiatives that directly impact how people interact with their healthcare, focusing on engagement, retention and continuity of care. These aren't just features; they're tools that help real people better manage their health.

What Success Looks Like in 6 Months

You're making deliberate trade-offs between foundational work and fast experimentation, and you can explain the calls: what you invested in, what you deliberately deferred, and why.

The engineers reporting to you are visibly growing, engaged, and raising their own bar.

Your squads are delivering faster and at higher quality, with AI-enabled workflows becoming the default way of working.

You're personally shipping. Writing code and delivering features at a healthy, steady pace. Setting the bar for what good AI-enabled development looks like in practice.

Patient Engagement is showing tangible improvements in engagement, retention and continuity of care.

But the real indicator of success? Other teams start knocking on your door. They want to understand your workflows, adopt your practices, and replicate your results. Not in theory, but in ways that actually ship better patient experiences, faster.

What You'll Do

Drive Technical Leadership & Take AI Usage to the Next Level

Lead 7–9 senior engineers across several small squads, each owning distinct business goals. Owning their growth, performance and hiring, and keeping each squad clear on the outcome it's accountable for.

Track and communicate impact with concrete metrics such as delivery speed, quality, developer satisfaction and product outcomes.

Set the direction on where to invest: which foundations are worth building, which bets are worth a fast experiment, and when to pivot a squad based on what the users actually need.

Partner closely with Product and Design to solve real patient problems end to end.

Push AI-assisted development well past where we are today in Patient Engagement. Prove the practices work, then help scale them across engineering.

Influence the wider Engineering community by example. Sharing what works, partnering rather than mandating, and helping teams adopt AI-enabled ways of working.

Lead Through Code

Experiment with and establish AI-powered development workflows, then teach others through direct, hands-on demonstration

Solve real patient engagement and continuity challenges through hands-on coding, using cutting-edge AI development tools to demonstrate new possibilities.

Prototype and build solutions that showcase AI-enabled development practices in patient-facing products.

Work directly in your teams' codebases. It means not just reviewing, but implementing features and architectural changes.

What We're Looking For

In a sentence: someone who can code the future while being passionate about delivering real impact to users and inspiring others to follow.

You operate with a founder mindset. You move from idea to experiment quickly, validate with real users, and change direction without ego when the evidence says you should

You've led multiple teams or squads at once, and you know how to keep each one focused on its own outcome without becoming a bottleneck.

You thrive in ambiguity and enjoy being the first to try something new, figure out what works, and help others navigate the same path.

You measure what matters and iterate relentlessly, focused on building software that is faster, better and more impactful.

You bring solid hands-on experience using AI to accelerate software development, improving how code is written, reviewed and refactored, with strong judgment on when to rely on AI versus traditional approaches.

People naturally follow your technical lead because you consistently deliver results and raise the bar for those around you.

You genuinely enjoy teaching and mentoring, whether through pairing, retrospectives, or helping others level up.

Bonus points if you've worked at scale, but we care more about how you think, the impact you drive, and your focus on meaningful user outcomes than the size of your previous company.
