Electrician (Seasonal)

The Pacific West Region is recruiting for TEMPORARY seasonal positions not to exceed 1560 hours work in a service year. Dates of employment will vary between sites depending on funding, weather conditions and visitation.

Within regulatory limitations, the length of initial appointment may be shortened or extended depending on work availability and funding. Duty Location is: Yosemite National Park. The incumbent installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment park wide.

Performs all preventative maintenance, operational checks, repair, layout, installation, troubleshooting, tracing, locating defects, modification on all new and existing electrical systems park wide, electrical generators and fire suppression systems park wide.

Work consists of installing and troubleshooting meters, load centers, circuit breakers, equipment controls, lighting and power outlets, disconnects, solenoids, relays and lighting fixtures. He/she accurately bends and installs EMT, rigid, flex and PVC conduits for installation of electric systems.

The incumbent must be able to appropriately apply the NEC to projects in order to select the correct materials and methods for an installation or repair. Installs, maintains and repairs electric motors, pumps, control wiring, relays and starters, particularly those units required for sewer treatment plant operation, water systems, and HVAC.

Works from plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, repair manuals and related codes: May perform some carpentry and painting work in areas where electrical systems have been installed and for minor buildings repairs and modifications.

This requires a thorough working knowledge of power tools, hand tools, construction materials, premixed paints, paint rollers and brushes. Uses appropriate safety equipment and follows standard safety procedures while performing the varied duties of this position.

This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions. Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds, and occasionally over 50 pounds.

This work includes, but is not limited to installing or replacing, deep cycle batteries for solar systems; generators in remote areas using hoists and bars; boiler components in basements; motors and fan coil components in lofts and attics and aerators and other large equipment from sewage treatment ponds and facilities.

The incumbent will be required to work in cramped areas such as attics, crawl spaces and ventilation shafts which require crawling to install, troubleshoot or repair electrical components. May be exposed to electrical shock, spark and arc hazard and health hazards in sewer treatment plants.

Working Conditions: The incumbent works outside in all types of weather; often works inside in dusty, arid occasionally greasy locations where there is a possibility of cuts and bruises.
