Position Title: Electrical Engineer II - Lighting Engineer

Position Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States

Job Summary

This position is in DLB’s Mission Critical Department and focuses primarily on hyperscale data centers and related mission critical facilities.

The Electrical Engineer II will have the opportunity to work with and collaborate with senior design staff to advance their lighting design and controls skills. They will learn, through hands-on application, how to design a wide variety of mission critical projects.

This person will work as part of the Engineering Team and interact closely with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, perform illumination calculations, develop and edit project specifications, and assist in the construction administration process.

The Electrical Engineer II will receive general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. May work independently, consistently exercising discretion and independent judgment on individual work, or may work under immediate supervision. May serve as trade lead on routine projects of limited scope.

The Electrical Engineer II will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Essential Functions

Assist in Production of Electrical Engineering / Lighting Documents (50%)

Perform intermediate to advanced engineering work as directed

Perform intermediate to advanced lighting design tasks under a senior engineer’s supervision

Perform intermediate to advanced computations and analysis for lighting systems

Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings, calculations, and visual aids

Specify lighting fixtures and associated controls

Assist in Pre-Construction Activities (15%)

Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports of findings

Collect data and other information for construction documents

Prepare project design and construction documents

Basic editing and writing of project specifications

Assist in Construction Activities (25%)

Work as part of the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team

Review shop drawings and submittals

Review and respond to RFIs

Review and complete punch lists and project close out documents

Reporting (10%)

Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders

Update and maintain shop drawing and RFI log

Manage personal hours using company tools

Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

Position Requirements (Intermediate level for all the following)

Knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical systems found in buildings including basic circuiting, lighting and lighting controls, and life safety systems

Knowledge of codes and specifications for the design of electrical systems including IES Standards, National Electric Code, Life Safety and Energy Conservation Codes

Knowledge of technical / design software including illumination calculations and voltage drop

Skilled at producing drawings and visual aids using AutoCAD and Revit

Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management

Skilled in performing code analysis including local requirements, selection of equipment, wiring, etc. to meet code requirements

Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail

Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.

Ability to work successfully in a remote environment thru effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace

Ability to follow company and site safety requirements

Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)

Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact

Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision

Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines

Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Travel / Relocation Requirements

Approximately 10%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states

Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.

Education / Experience

Bachelor’s degree in electrical from ABET accredited institution, with a sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals

PLUS

Minimum of three years of electrical engineering / lighting design experience
