Job Summary

The Azure Cloud SQL Database Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operational support, monitoring, maintenance, performance tuning, backup validation, and availability of production SQL database environments hosted in Microsoft Azure.

This role has primary operational responsibility for Azure SQL Managed Instances and related Azure data services, with a focus on database performance, security, data synchronization, high availability, and disaster recovery in complex production environments.

The Azure Cloud SQL Database Administrator partners closely with customers and internal engineering teams to ensure reliable and secure database operations.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience administering production SQL workloads in Azure, including Azure SQL Managed Instances, Azure Data Factory, Elastic Jobs, Azure analytics services, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Change Data Capture (CDC), and Azure SQL failover configurations.

The candidate must be comfortable supporting high-volume transactional environments and collaborating directly with customers and engineering teams during incidents, maintenance activities, production changes, and disaster recovery events.

This is a remote managed services position requiring strong operational discipline, customer communication skills, and documentation practices. The role requires a dedicated home office and limited travel as needed. Role Description

Administer, monitor, maintain, optimize, patch, and troubleshoot Azure SQL Managed Instances, SQL Server on Azure IaaS, and associated SQL workloads.

Monitor and troubleshoot database health, performance, connectivity, availability, replication, synchronization, storage growth, blocking, deadlocks, and transaction throughput.

Implement and maintain indexing, statistics, query tuning, and capacity management practices for high-volume transactional databases.

Administer and troubleshoot Azure Data Factory pipelines and integrations that interact with SQL platforms.

Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot Azure SQL Elastic Jobs.

Support Azure data platform technologies, including Azure analytics services, SSRS, SSAS, and SSIS.

Monitor and troubleshoot Change Data Capture (CDC), including supporting SQL Agent processes, retention behavior, latency, and downstream dependencies.

Configure, test, monitor, and troubleshoot Azure SQL failover groups, failover and failback operations, and replication for high-volume transactional workloads.

Perform planned maintenance, database deployments, schema changes, and production updates through established change control processes.

Develop operational documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), troubleshooting guides, and contribute to disaster recovery runbooks.

Lead or participate in managed services projects aligned with customer objectives.

Engage directly with customers through incident response, change requests, meetings, and status communications while maintaining accurate documentation and PSA system records, including weekly timesheet submissions.

Support audits, compliance initiatives, on-call rotations, and technical escalations.
