Data Scientist

Lead and conduct studies by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting multi-faceted data using advanced statistical techniques such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and modeling to detect fraud and trends in Medicare and Medicaid.

Research and develop statistical models for data analysis, advancing analytic methodologies and collaborating with CPI customers and stakeholders to devise innovative analytic solutions.

Serve as a technical resource, consultant/liaison to internal Agency, Federal, or contractor staff on program integrity data analysis and coordinate various Program Integrity (PI) projects across different groups or components within CMS as needed.

Research emergent data analytics, knowledge management trends, and technology developments from government and industry to develop recommendations for improvements to CPI's programs, tools, techniques, and approaches.

Possess a degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR B.

Possess a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Minimum Qualifications, GS-14: In addition to the mandatory education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) Executing, leading, or controlling projects to develop statistical models for data analysis and/or devise innovative analytic solutions to program integrity related issues; (2) Designing, implementing, and/or evaluating machine learning and other artificial intelligence tools to extract insights from unstructured and multidimensional data; and (3) Presenting clear and concise findings to a wide variety of audiences using data visualization tools, programming languages, and/or software applications to support evidence-based recommendations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
