As a Cook Cook WG-7404-5, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Independently prepare and cook a variety of items for regular and therapeutic diets (diabetic, low sodium, low protein, gluten free, etc.) entrees and dessert items Prepare different types of food using varies methods such as braise, broil, simmer, bake, fry, steam, stew, and grill.

Cook foods to proper temperatures and maintain proper food temperatures during holding, re-heating, and serving to assure quality control and food safety. Wash, peel, and cut fruits and vegetables; set up and replenish a salad bar. Make a variety of desserts such as cobblers, brownies, cookies, and pastries.

Weigh, measure, and assemble ingredients for regular and modified menu items. Cover, label, and date food items according to established policies and procedures.

Clean and sanitize work areas and perform deep cleaning tasks when needed; sweep and mop floors; clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, work surfaces, tables and utensils; and clean kettles, ranges, ovens, and other equipment. Operate a variety of kitchen equipment and follows appropriate safety procedures.

Track students' meal plan usage by counting number of purchased dinners. NOTE: This position is also being advertised under DE Announcement Number BIE-13005445-26-JCJ DE. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what the applicant can do against what the work calls for.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities of applicants are compared with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. If applicants have the ability to do the work, they are considered eligible for the job.

Applicants who appear to meet the prescribed Screen-out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. While a specific length of training and/or experience is not required, applicant responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed resume work history information.
