CIVIL ENGINEER (STRUCTURAL) - DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY

This Civil Engineer (Structural) position is available in the Division of Dam Safety Inspections in the Office of Energy Projects.

As a Civil Engineer (Structural), some of your typical work assignments include: Conducting dam inspections, performs and reviews analyses, reviews plans and specifications for design and construction, and provides technical comments for licensed hydroelectric projects with difficult, complex, and/or controversial features with a focus on the structural elements, such as concrete dams, gates, intakes, powerhouses, etc.

Preparing engineering reports and letters, including detailed comments and recommendations, to establish and document dam safety of hydroelectric projects.

Evaluating the adequacy of design, constructability, and compliance with the Commission's guidelines and current engineering criteria and practices for a wide range of structures including various types of concrete dams and appurtenant structures such as gates, intakes, and powerhouses.

In addition to the education required for this position, you must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level.

Specialized experience is defined as: Experience independently applying expert level structural engineering to the analysis, investigation, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of hydropower facilities or dams.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
