Carpenter Leader

You will serve as a/an Carpenter Leader and be responsible for servicing as a work leader for a group of three or more workers in the Carpenter Shop, Buildings & Grounds Section, Public Works Branch, and Facilities Engineering Division. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Leading three or more workers in the shop and in the field. Manufacturing, repairing, installing and troubleshooting a wide variety of structural systems and components.

Examples include: Installation of doors, locks, locksets, lock cylinders, windows, interior and exterior trim, framework, rafters, finished paneling, cabinets, countertops, flooring, and beams.

Exercising a high degree of initiative, expertise and competent judgment in determining the most appropriate work methods and procedures required to effect repairs.

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to Lead or Supervise Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.

Knowledge of Materials Measurement and Layout Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
