The posting
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join a distributed, product-focused platform team building the services and processes that power a B2B2C wellbeing and benefits platform. You will work in a mid-senior team spread across Chile, Mexico and Spain, taking ownership of backend services on a modern AWS serverless stack, with a strong emphasis on security, reliability and clean integration with third-party partners.
Day to day you will design and implement REST APIs and event-driven services, integrate with external partners and internal domains, harden the security of the systems you own (access control, secrets, input validation), maintain and upgrade existing services (library and version upgrades, vulnerability remediation), and keep quality high through testing and code reviews.
This is a hands-on, autonomous role: the team defines the “how”, so we value a strong analytical mindset, pragmatic judgement and clear communication over knowing every tool by heart.
MUST
Nodejs & TypeScript: 4+ years of overall backend experience and 3+ years building production services with and strict TypeScript.
AWS Serverless: Solid hands-on experience with AWS serverless (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions), including deployment, configuration and troubleshooting in production.
Backend Security (core focus): Ability to secure the services you own: least-privilege IAM, secrets management, input validation and sanitization (DTO/schema validators), parameterized queries to prevent injection, and secure API design. This is the primary focus of the role.
Relational Databases: Strong PostgreSQL skills: schema design, query optimization, transactions and behavior under concurrency.
NoSQL Databases: Practical experience with DynamoDB (or an equivalent NoSQL store): access-pattern modeling, indexing and trade-offs versus relational.
Event-Driven Architecture: Experience designing services that communicate through queues/topics, with idempotency, retries and dead-letter handling for resilient, decoupled processing.
REST API Design: Proven ability to design and implement well-structured REST APIs, including versioning, error handling and clear service contracts.
Testing & Quality: A test-first mindset with unit and integration testing, plus active participation in code reviews focused on production quality.
CI/CD: Experience setting up and maintaining automated pipelines (GitHub Actions), including dependency upgrades and vulnerability checks.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Mindset: Ability to reason about trade-offs, diagnose issues methodically and prioritize real risks over micro-optimizations; comfortable operating autonomously within a team that defines the architecture.
English B2+: Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively in a multicultural, fully remote team distributed across time zones.
EXTRAS (Nice to have)
Infrastructure as Code: Familiarity with IaC tooling such as Terraform or SST (Serverless Stack) for reproducible, versioned infrastructure.
Python: Ability to work with Python for scripts, data processing or services (not required; the core stack is TypeScript/Node).
GCP Exposure: Exposure to Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, Firestore); AWS concepts translate directly.
NestJS: Experience structuring backend applications with NestJS (modules, dependency injection, guards, class-validator).
Caching: Experience using Redis or similar for caching and reducing database load.
AI-Assisted Development: A mature, structured workflow using AI coding agents to accelerate development while keeping quality and review discipline.
Domain Knowledge: Exposure to fintech, payments, payroll or tax & benefits domains (a plus given the complex fiscal/legal nature of the product).
Quick Skills Reference
Languages: TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), Python
Backend: Node.js, NestJS, Express
Database: PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis
APIs: REST, Event-driven (queues/topics)
Cloud / Tools: AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions), SST, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Docker, Git, CI/CD
