Position will serve as primary expert in completing maintenance and operation duties using several trades and crafts to the asset portfolio at all three districts of Canaveral National Seashore.

Assets include beach access boardwalks, lagoon piers, and docks, historic and non-historic buildings, both paved and un-paved roads and parking lots, maintained landscapes, and trails.

Using journeyman level skills with hand and power tools, complete carpentry tasks of both rough and finish work to park assets including structural repairs and additions to boardwalks, piers, and docks; address damage to both the interior and exterior of buildings through repair or complete replacement of siding, walls, flooring, windows, doors, cabinetry, decking, porches, ramps, and handrails; ensure that carpentry work is completed safely and meets all applicable building codes; all measurements are done accurately and finished work is precise and of neat appearance.

Independently complete painting projects of both interior and exterior features; select the appropriate materials and necessary supplies; prepare surfaces to receive finishes, apply paint with brushes, rollers, sprayers; ensure finish product has a smooth and decorative appearance.

Make repairs to plumbing components of supply and disposal lines to buildings as well as pluming features within buildings such as water closets, tubs and showers, and fire sprinklers; replace plumbing components using appropriate trade methods to include installing couplings, unions, and joints; plan, lays out, and completes new installations of plumbing components.

Addresses masonry, roofing, and electrical issues by identifying the problem, determining what work needs to be completed, making recommendations to supervisor before initiating work, performing minor repairs, typically replacing components in-kind rather than building new.

Operate both equipment and tractors to complete tasks to include grading gravel roads to specified width, height, and smoothness; removes sand and debris from roads and parking areas after storms, often under adverse weather conditions; digs and cleans roadside drainage systems; operates backhoe and front-end loading while performing grounds maintenance and earth moving operations Performs a variety of general labor such as carrying heavy items to work site; assists with erosion control projects; digging holes for posts, cleaning drainage ditches, culverts, and gutters; roadside litter patrol; unloads trucks; uses and repairs hand and power tools; keeps tool cache clean and organized.

Requirements Continued... Probationary Period: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.

In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized.

In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.

(includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.
