HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC LEADER

• Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. On a regular and recurring basis, trade utilizes and/or labor knowledge and skill to lead a team of three or more workers in performance of various related work. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions from other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions and directives. - Performs work. Performs nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led. Performs the entire spectrum of trades/and or labor task appropriate for the occupations and grade of the team for which they are assigned working leader. - Performs pretest, operational (functional), and final testing; final tuning; alignment; and/or calibration of highly complex Direct Digital Controls (DDC) electronic systems, industrial electronic controls, pneumatic components, Hydraulic loading equipment, and/or subassemblies and Preventative Maintenance (PM). Utilizes the TRIRIGA Periodic Maintenance computer generated program in the performance of preventative maintenance on Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Direct Digital Controls, Refrigeration, Conditioned Air switches, and associated systems. Uses Boolean algebra to construct truth tables and logic equations for analysis of logic circuits. - Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and supporting equipment for different kinds of structures such as large office buildings, warehouses, communication center, link training rooms, and other areas with sensitive equipment with complex problems and extensive repairs requiring judgment to locate malfunctions. Systems include those with a variety of compressors, finite air conditioning equipment cooling for training devices, and a variety of refrigerant controls. Systems use a variety of complicated motor controls and other controls to protect against overload or overheating. - Installs, modifies, overhauls, repairs, and maintains a variety of complex heating boilers and/or heating systems, single and multiple fuel power boilers, and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment. Performs work on power boilers which use natural gas, liquid propane or a combination of fuels for steam or hot water production and distribution.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 - Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the Ability To Do the Work of a Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Leader without More than Normal Supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees. 6.

Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance.

Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods.

In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy equipment using hoists, holders, and pulleys as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas which requires employee to operate various mechanical lifts and work platforms to access mechanical systems.

Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Subject to possible burns from refrigerants.

Works near moving parts of equipment and machinery, energized electrical circuits, sharp metal edges, loud noises, and toxic fumes, which could cause cuts, burns, and respiratory ailments. May be subject to sudden and frequent temperature changes. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
