Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Assists with overhauls and repairs to marine and land based heavy equipment. This may include end loaders, motor graders, dump trucks, power generators, and boats ranging from 21 to 32 feet in length.
Assists with overhauls and repairs to smaller gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. This includes pickup trucks, vans, and chain saws, inboard/outdrives marine equipment, welder, etc. Outboard engines ranging from 4 to 200 horsepower.
Provides routine servicing to all the above vehicles and equipment using guidelines provided in equipment service manuals. Installs repaired engines, transmissions, outdrives, exhaust systems, shafts, propellers, reduction gears, steering cables, instruments panels and components, brake systems, etc.
Assists with diagnosing and repairing direct current electrical systems. This includes repairing and/or replacing alternators, regulators, switches, wiring harnesses, engine tune-ups, etc. Assists with the operation, maintenance and servicing of the park's electrical power generation system.
Operates heavy equipment when moving boats into and out of the shop. Performs limited amount of buildings maintenance and includes cleaning, installing shelving, plumbing modifications, adjusting overhead doors, etc. Must have the ability to read, understand and follow procedures outlined in technical manuals, bulletins and written work orders.
Must be able to work from verbal instructions and to work with minimum assistance. A thorough understanding of engine diagnostic equipment, both electronic and mechanical is required to skillfully and routinely use precision tools and instruments in the performance of duties.
Must possess the knowledge and skill to inspect equipment within the scope of responsibility, diagnose problems using manufacturer's manuals and technical specifications, obtain parts and make repairs in a timely manner.
In rebuilding or overhauling individual systems such as engines, outdrives or transmissions, incumbent must have the skills and knowledge to measure, fit and install components, such as crank shafts, bearings, pistons, valves, cylinder liners, to clearances and tolerances specified in appropriate manufacturer's equipment manuals.
Must have the knowledge and skill to properly connect, mesh, align, and adjust components. Chalmette, Louisiana: Chalmette is home to the Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery, located six miles southeast of New Orleans.
It is the historic site of the 1815 Battle of New Orleans and serves as the final resting place for U.S. soldiers from the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, and Vietnam. Marrero, Louisiana: Marrero hosts the Barataria Preserve, part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve.
The area highlights the region's uplands, swamps, and marshlands, interpreting the natural and cultural history of southeastern Louisiana.
