INSTRUMENT MECHANIC LEADER

You will show proper trade techniques and practices and explain safety precautions.

You will set up machinery and equipment and give instruction in the use of layout techniques, power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments and safety devices.

You will strive to improve performance in training sessions.

You will follow all of the shipyard certification standards.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Ability to lead other Instrument mechanics in the troubleshooting, repairing and installation of a variety of components used in mechanical/electro-mechanical measuring instruments and equipment.

Evaluate the accuracy of the test instruments and the standard used to assure the correct test accuracy ratios are being met. Recalibrate a portion of work completed in the laboratory as needed. Understanding of how to select, set up and operate laboratory mechanical Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment.

Working knowledge of multiple calibration disciplines to include pressure, temperature, dimensional, torque, mass, rotation, linear and angular of a variety of multicomponent mechanical/electromechanical measuring equipment.

Ability to understand the principles and methods of physical and dimensional metrology as it applies to instrument mechanic trade. Ability to utilize the various mechanical components and operating theories involved in the repair, overhaul and calibration of test and monitoring systems. Ability to utilize a variety of precision measuring devices.
