NUCLEAR MECHANIC SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIPS)

You will conduct pre-test, test inspections, certification and acceptance of completed work reviews on nuclear reactor plant, refueling, and overhaul work.

You will perform mechanical, piping, and structural inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections.

You will ensure reactor grade cleanliness is maintained in accordance with local directives as required by NAVSEA specifications for reactor plant cleanliness.

You will perform weld joint in-process and acceptance inspections for nuclear welding and non-destructive tests (NDT).

You will identify and document deficiencies on nuclear deficiency reports.

You will maintain records of inspections performed, adhere to all safety regulations, and inspection results and corrective actions are taken in accordance with local directives.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSPECT: Current nuclear training and qualifications are required at the full journeyman level. Must have the ability to interpret diagrams, specifications, drawing and interrelated procedures and technical requirements to most critical job applications.

Knowledge of mechanical, piping and structural material. System-wide knowledge of the interrelated effects of work evolutions of nuclear reactor plant systems.

The ability to work independently when initiating and authorization workmanship, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications by initiating Nuclear Deficiency reports. Able to maintain records of work performed.

Some knowledge of the following Inspection skills: Reactor Refueling Operations, Reactor Plant Certification prior to Critical Operations Testing, Reactor Grade Cleanliness Controls, Weld Joint in progress and acceptance inspections (Non-Destructive Test), Reactor Plant Systems. Material Accountability, and Receipt Inspection.

Knowledge of pre-use inspections and marking verifications of naval nuclear material ensuring proper material control and traceability is maintained. Able to: assemble, disassemble, install, test, maintain, repair, troubleshoot, calibrate for accuracy, modify and design.
