Serves as Maintenance Mechanic providing maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities. Makes visual inspections of fixtures and appurtenances as well as building shell, components, and surrounding areas to determine condition and nature and extent of repairs required. Estimates material and equipment required.
Utilizes skills and knowledge of a variety of trades primarily of journeyman, carpentry and plumbing skills and other trades of intermediate skill level, such as mechanical, electrical, and painting. Operates various types and sizes of motor vehicle and industrial equipment associated with maintenance work requirements.
Carpentry: Performs carpentry work involving utilization of skills and techniques required to install, repair or modify wood products such as building renovation, doors and window frames, walls, partitions, trim work, and other items such as furniture, cabinets, benches, etc. Works from sketches, blueprints, and other written and oral instructions.
Constructs displays for special events, signs, templates and other material. Determines tools, equipment, and materials required such as woods, metals, plastics, etc.
Plans and completes work from initial layout to final product completion. 30% Plumbing: Installs, modifies and repairs a variety of plumbing systems such as faucets, ballock assemblies, urinals, lavatories, toilets, traps, and fuel systems, re-grouts tubs.
Works from blueprints and other sketches, etc. when installing new or modifying existing systems. Uses copper, steel, galvanized and other metals, mortar, cement, plastic and other materials in accomplishing work requirements. 5% Electrical: Performs routine repair of electrical fixtures requiring the removal and replacement, etc.
Items repaired or replaced include switches, controls, circuit breakers, receptacles, lighting fixtures, etc. Performs work from verbal instructions, work orders, and wiring diagrams. 15% Mechanical: Replaces or repairs fixed operating machinery by bolting down parts and accessories, hydraulic lines, fuel lines, and lubricating equipment.
Determines requirement for item replacement or higher echelon repair for contract or replacement. 15% Painting: Performs a variety of work assignments involving brush, roller and/or spay paining.
Determines the methods and techniques, as well as material and equipment needed to accomplish assignment using standard brushing or spraying techniques primarily to insure protection from rust, weather, etc.
Prepares surfaces by methods such as smoothing with pumice and rottenstone, filling, shaping, and leveling with metal and synthetic resins, and mixing and applying precoating agents, for example, pickling and alkali compounds.
Determines color and consistency of paint required and mixes and pigments, thinners, and oils to produce paint that will flow evenly and consistently.
Responsible for planning the materials, tools, and techniques needed and completing the work as required. 25% Motor Vehicle Operating: Operates motor vehicle equipment in conjunction with maintenance work requirements and delivery or removal of surplus equipment, furniture and other material.
Equipment operated normally includes from 3/4 to 6-ton capacity for hauling material such as timber, pipe, concrete blocks, concrete and aggregate samples office furniture, supplies, and equipment. Assignments may require trips away from duty station at any location throughout the District.
Performs necessary operator maintenance and required trip tickets, etc. May be required to operate fork lift equipment in storing materials or in performing plumbing and other related work. 10%
Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities (KSAs) as they pertain to this position. A qualified candidate must possess the following: -Skilled in the techniques used in a variety of trades.
(i.e. journeyman level carpentry and plumbing skills, and at intermediate level skill in other trades work.
Must be qualified to use a variety of tools such as saws, hammers, metal and wood files, augers, shovels, paint brushes, spray guns, torque wrenches, feeler gages, planes, skill saws, radial arm saw, band saws, chain saws, joiners, electric sanders, pantographs, voltmeter, ohmmeter, fuse tester in the performance of assigned duties. -Possession of or the ability to acquire a state driver's license.
